Ryue Nishizawa Interview / SANAA

08.10.09 / · · · · ·

nishizawaInterview with Japanese Architect Ryue Nishizawa [1966-] principal at his own practice Office of Ryue Nishizawa since 1997 and also founder of SANAA in 1995 along with Kazuyo Sejima [1956-]. He graduated from Yokohama National University and has served as professor in the same institution since 2001.

Nishizawa enters Sejima’s office in 1990 -after three years of operation since she left Toyo Ito’s office. Since that time, they basically have been pushing foward to its very limits Ito’s more frivolous and sensual stage of the 1980’s and early 1990’s [right before his shift with Sendai Mediatheque] -that is to say, more light and transparent than the pope.

This interview was held at Moriyama House in Tokyo designed by Nishizawa in 2005 -probably the most overly publicized japanese project since Ito’s Mediatheque.  It mirrors Nishizawa’s persona as an architect as you will check in the following video.
