Ole Bouman Interview / NAi - Volumen / Part 1First part of the interview to Ole Bouman [1960-], director of NAI [Netherlands Architecture Institute] since 2007. Together with Rem Koolhaas [OMA] and Mark Wigley [Dean of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture] he founded Volume Magazine, a project by Archis [where Bouman also was editor in chief], C-Lab [Columbia Laboratory of Architectural Broadcasting] and AMO [OMA's own rhetorics lab].

In 2007 we interviewed Mark Wigley, who’s highly lucid thoughts were tingled with extremely narcissistic and contentious moments and elitism. Whims of the 1st World. Same with Bouman. His thesis of unsolicited architecture [entrepreneurship in architectural practice] is very eloquent in rhetorical terms –like reclaiming professional autonomy- but yet very opaque in its results [where are the buildings?]. What we’re saying is that this pamphet idea sounds good but its translation into the reality isn’t so clear. If you still have doubts, just ask about it [to 0300TV, to the intellectual periphery or to the 3rd World, you choose].

In this episode, Ole explains his position on the last Venice Biennal –Architecture Beyond Building- as curator of the Dutch Pavilion and also about Volume’s power and ambition.

This interview isn’t easy for us -like most of our efforts at 0300TV: No generic sets for the architect, no confort zones and certainly not fast-food for the audience.
