Interviews
First part of the interview to Andreas Ruby [1966-], principal of Textbild and Ruby Press with Ilka Ruby [1969-]. Andreas Ruby is an architectural critic and theorist. He writes essays [on François Roche and Jurgen Mayer to name a few], articles [Volume, Werk, Bauen + Wohnen], designs books [Zaha Hadid, Lacaton & Vassal] and curates exhibitions and symposiums [Contract World, Holcim Forum].
Like Mark Wigley, we’re interested in what he has to say for three main reasons:
He’s deeply involved in the publishing world.
He’s deeply involved in the academic world.
He’s deeply involved in the discussion of architecture in the upper echelons of the discipline.
In this first episode, Ruby speaks about how the last Architecture Biennale [Architecture beyond Building curated by Aaron Betsky] was a wasted opportunity; about the current state of the architecture magazines and how architects should work on civil disobedience.
In 2008, Ilka and Andreas Ruby edited a book entitled Urban Transformations released by Ruby Press.
