Interviews
Interview to Ai Weiwei, chinese conceptual artist and director of FAKE Design sice 1999.
Ai Weiwei -son of poet Ai Qing- returned to Beijing in 1993 after a decade in New York. He soon became a world celebrity by co-curating Fuck Off, an alternative to 2000 Shanghai Biennale.
A year before that, he designed his first work: his own studio/house in the outskirts of Beijing. Up to know, he has designed several buildings in his neighborhood [Chaochangdi] and since 2004 he has been closely collaborating with swiss practice Herzog & De Meuron -in Jinhua Architecture Park, Beijing Olympic Stadium and 2008 Venice Viennale, among other projects.
In this episode, Ai first speaks about his own background and -secondly- on how the current political situation of China affects the work of practicing architects, academics and even architecture media.
Only on 0300TV.
