Interviews
Second part of the interview to Belgian architects Kersten Geers [Ghent, 1975] and David Van Severen [Ghent, 1978] principals of OFFICE KGDVS, founded in 2002.
This second episode is about OFFICE KGDVS relationship with the academy, the Korea Competition with DOGMA, their references, their approach to the city [away from the nowadays type of urbanism] and the 25 rooms villa in Inner Mongolia [Ordos100 project].
The formal language of architecture is not, as is generally supposed, a function of arbitrary empirical conditions, but rather the intrinsic expression of the aesthetic value of architecture. It has its own rational logic, which is also how the concept of ‘rational’ architecture should be understood. The tools of formal language are the compositional rules of mass and space. It is the language of architecture which elicits the feeling of love. It is means of expression which transform the useful in to ludic realm, into the realm of art.
